What’s the story?
Photography for Samaritans #breakthesilence fundraising campaign; an appeal to get people talking and stamp out the stigma that surrounds suicide. I was briefed to do the stills for the campaign which included portraits of real callers and listening volunteers at various Bristol locations.
I needed someone who I didn’t know to just sit there and let me be vulnerable. At that point, Samaritans was there.

Sometimes people are just very alone and to be able to pick up the phone is such a huge thing.

When someone isn’t offering you words or answers, you really have to dig into thinking ‘What is this thing that I’m feeling?’

If I didn’t break the silence – if I didn’t take steps to obtain help and understand myself – then I probably wouldn’t be here today.
